Khadija’s Garden, Hoxton Street N1

The planting in this pocket park has been developed and cared for by us to provide an exuberance of seasonal colour in a formerly bleak section of Hoxton.   Positioned within the heart of the area - next to the Post Office, opposite the New City College and within the bounds of Hackney Council’s Arden Estate - it is loved by local residents and visitors alike.

PEER initiated the garden and commissioned Trevor Horne Architects and Yvonne Say to make the original designs.  Two art commissions were included, a revolving clock Black Hands by Chris Ofili and a 10m sculpture made up of multi-occupational bird houses Spontaneous City : Hoxton by London Fieldworks.   We are pleased to be maintaining the vibrancy of the project.

The garden was renamed Khadija’s Garden in 2017 in memory of the artist Khadija Saye who was killed in the Grenfell Tower fire on 14th June 2017.  Khadija had been working as an intern at PEER and played a significant role in the development and planting of the garden.
